Error Correction
When it comes to error correction online it is almost exactly the same as error correction in person. Now when it comes to general error correction you really have two main choices: immediate correction or over time correction. Immediate correction focuses on solving any issues in classes right away and trying to prevent your students from making any future mistakes. Over time correction focuses on helping your students fix their errors over time rather than immediately and helping them build a strong foundation over time, allowing them to possibly correct themselves more in the future as well.
In addition to these things, remember that teaching online gives you a few extra tools as well compared to teaching in person. You can use separate rooms for students to directly come in and give feedback and information in situations where you may not have been able to check on groups so easily and efficiently in person. In addition, you also have the chat box in the program of your choice, which means that you can check the students answers for discrepancies if you have all of them use the chat box for answering. The extra tools available in the program you choose are a huge benefit of teaching online.
Also, when it comes to correcting pronunciation, it can be a little different. If you have students who are struggling a lot with pronunciation you should look to help them by showing lip, teeth, and tongue movements and positions. If you are in one-on-one classes pronunciation issues can be easily tackled with enough work and continuous speaking. However, if you are in group lessons it will be almost impossible to directly work on pronunciation with a student without making them feel a bit singled out, so it is important to do as much speaking as possible and to work on it in homework assignments as well.
