Getting Started

To get started you will need some specific materials such as a computer or laptop with a webcam and microphone, preferably of decent quality so your learners can see and listen to you clearly during your lessons. In addition, you need to make sure that you have a stable internet connection so you are not randomly cutting in and out of the video call during your teaching sessions. You will also need a program on your computer for making the video calls for your lesson.

Remember the differences between working for yourself and a company and if you are working for a company, it is likely that they will provide you with the necessary program to teach their students. During in-person lessons props such as (toys, games, etc.) are very common, but when it comes to online lessons it is a lot more difficult to have those things available and on hand as an online teacher. Which is why you will need to fall back on other materials and resources to use during your lessons. For instance, if you are teaching a lesson about furniture, you can show your students around your house and give examples of furniture and ask them to do the same for you. Or you could be teaching a lesson about different foods and use foods that are in you and your students house in order to facilitate learning. It isn’t always about making everything perfect or just finding online pictures to show your students, but about being flexible and using the resources you have around both you and your student for your lessons. Try to bring in real objects and examples, when possible, but don’t force them in if you find them to be unnecessary for the lesson.
