Section 3: Classroom Etiquette
Chapter 18: Motivation in the Classroom
One of the most important aspects you will see in your classroom when it comes to students’ willingness to work with you or to even listen to the lessons is motivation. In the classroom a student's motivation can make or break their whole foundation of English. If every day you come into the classroom and present different knowledge with no interest, the same tone, and the same methods every time, students are bound to become bored and lose their motivation to participate in classes and your lessons. It is very important that you change things up on a daily basis, even if it is only in the slightest way. Preparing an educational game or two for each lesson on a rotation for each week is a very good way to keep students interested and motivated in class. For instance, offering a game at the end of each class or offering a game in the middle of a class as a break from the monotony of the usual book or classwork that the students are doing will give many students a reason to participate and actively use English in the classroom. Keeping students in a constant state of doing different things and trying different teaching methods to keep your students interested and motivated is one of the trickiest things to get the hang of as an English teacher; however, as time passes and are you are able to see your students likes and dislikes you can easily craft a plan for them on a daily and weekly basis.
